National Reading Champions Quiz 2025

Congratulations to all the students who participated in the National Reading Champions Quiz 2025! This exciting competition saw teams from TCA pitting their literary knowledge against other students in the region.
Earlier this month, our teams took part in the East of England heat held at Northgate High School in Dereham. Each student did themselves proud, demonstrating their enthusiasm and dedication throughout the competition.
The National Reading Champions Quiz, led by the National Literacy Trust and funded by the Author's Licensing and Collection Society, celebrates keen young readers and highlights the important role of teachers and school librarians in promoting reading for pleasure.
"I was proud of how our teams of Key Stage 3 students worked together during the quiz. They were so enthusiastic throughout and tried hard in all rounds, each one having a different theme," said our librarian, Miss Robinson. "They gave some great answers during the quiz, which included some tricky questions and a variety of types of questions on a wide range of fiction. It’s great to be able to take part in an event that celebrates reading for pleasure."
The quiz, aimed at students up to the age of 14, provides a fantastic opportunity for students to test their knowledge by competing with other schools from their region. With a total of 21 teams in our competition, the winning teams from each of the 20 regions will advance to the national finals in London in May. Congratulations to Thorpe St Andrew School Team B on winning the heat.
Our teams, consisting of Max, Liberty, Ryan, Ayanda, Jennifer, Eli, Azra, and Lilly, with reserve and chief supporter Amelia-Rose, performed admirably. Although we didn't make it to the finals this year, everyone should be delighted with their performance on the day. We are already looking forward to next year's contest.
Here are some quotes from the students who attended:
Max: "What I liked about the National Reading Quiz is the number of people taking part and generally the quiz altogether. It’s tricky as some questions are really hard when it’s a book that you haven’t read. I would recommend the quiz to people who read a lot and a wide variety of books. My favourite round was round 8 because it included little clips with clues to the book that you need to try and figure out before the next one plays."
Ryan: "The most fun round was when we got to the short film part. We got to watch a short film and guess what book it was based on. When the winner was announced, there was so much tension. It was so much fun!"
Ayanda: "I really enjoyed the day. I think it was a fun way of testing my knowledge on books. I also think it was a good competition between children of our age, and overall, I enjoyed it. I am looking forward to doing it again next year."
Liberty: "I found the trip really good. It was a great atmosphere and so nice to meet other schools in the process. I thought it was a great way to test our knowledge."
Amelia-Rose: "The National Reading Champions Quiz was really fun. Everyone was communicating properly, and it didn’t matter who won or lost; we all enjoyed taking part in the quiz. I thought the hardest round was round 7 and the easiest was round 1."
Eli: "I liked the quiz; it was really fun. Sadly, we didn’t win, but we tried hard with the questions, and we had a great time. Thank you, Miss Robinson."
Jennifer: "It was really fun. Sadly, next year is the last year I can do it. Mr. Dilly, the presenter, had a cool hat, and the questions were really good."
Azra: "The book quiz was an amazing opportunity for me and the other TCA students. The staff and students at the school were lovely, polite, and really helpful. I would 100% recommend taking part in the quiz as everything was a lot of fun and everyone was included. I would 100% go again!"
Lilly: "I liked how we worked together to answer the questions and try to win it for our school. Everyone was communicating really well, and it was really fun. All the schools were cheering along. My favourite round was the movie round; you had to watch a clip and try to figure out what book it was. Some questions were hard, but overall, everyone was having a great time."
