Wisbech Creates: A Musical Journey for Year 7 Students

What a day it was! On Monday, Year 7 students from Thomas Clarkson Academy (TCA) and The Wisbech Academy (TWA) had the incredible experience of witnessing top-tier musicians perform works by great composers such as Bach, Vivaldi, Satie, Eilish, and the ever-popular Saint-Saëns’ "Carnival of the Animals."

Students had the unique opportunity to choose the repertoire and apply elements they’ve learnt in their Music Curriculum, such as dynamics, pitch, and tempo. This event marked the first step in the "Wisbech Creates" project, where students involved in the "Overture Project" will collaborate with musicians and composers to create bespoke music pieces representing TCA and TWA.

The event was made possible through partnerships with Britten Sinfonia, Cambridgeshire Music, Creative Arts East, Orchestras Live, and Twenty20 Productions.

Mr. Tim McCoy, Head of Expressive Arts, shared his thoughts on the event: "This was a fantastic opportunity for our students to see professional musicians in action and to apply their classroom learning in a real-world setting. The enthusiasm and creativity displayed by our students were truly inspiring."

He added: "It’s brilliant for our students to experience live orchestral music from professional musicians. Our students were so engaged and recognised some of the amazing pieces of music. We need more of this in Wisbech. Thanks, Britten Sinfonia."
