Year 7 Students Experience the Magic of Opera

Thomas Clarkson Academy (TCA) and The Wisbech Academy (TWA) Year 7 students recently had a fantastic opportunity to participate in the Royal Opera's 'Everybody Sing' initiative. Held in TCA's theatre, this exciting session brought Mozart’s beloved opera, ‘The Magic Flute,’ directly to over 300 children, creating an unforgettable musical adventure.

During the session, students had front-row seats to watch songs performed by artists of the Royal Opera. They were introduced to enchanting characters like Prince Tamino, Princess Pamina, and the Queen of the Night. One of the most engaging parts was the sing-along, where our students joined children from across the country singing key pieces from the opera. The students also had the chance to meet real Royal Opera singers, who inspired them with their talent and dedication.

This initiative aimed to make opera enjoyable and accessible to children, fostering their creativity and building their confidence. It also supported key elements of the music curriculum, including understanding music, performing, and listening skills. Our students were deeply engaged throughout the session, gaining cultural capital and a greater appreciation for the arts.

The 'Everybody Sing' event was a resounding success, leaving a lasting impact on the students and enriching their educational experience. We extend our gratitude to the Royal Opera for this inspiring initiative and look forward to similar opportunities in the future.
