Year 7 & 8 are buzzing about books!

Thomas Clarkson Academy is delighted to announce its continued investment in the Bookbuzz programme for Year 7 and Year 8 students this academic year. This year, the initiative also includes Year 7 students from The Wisbech Academy, highlighting the collaboration between the two schools within the trust. The programme aims to foster a love for reading among students by providing them with high-quality, carefully selected books.

During a recent literacy lesson, students were introduced to the 16 Bookbuzz titles through a film featuring the authors discussing their works. Following this, each student had the opportunity to choose their favourite book, which was ordered for them to take home and keep.

The Bookbuzz titles are chosen by a panel of experts to ensure they are engaging and suitable for young readers, promoting reading for pleasure. Parents can learn more about the books their children have selected by visiting the BookTrust website.

Additionally, students can explore the Bookbuzz student zone, which offers competitions, author blogs, and quizzes, further enhancing their reading experience.

Miss Robinson, Thomas Clarkson Academy librarian, shared her excitement about the programme: "The Bookbuzz programme offers a wide range of books to our Year 7 and 8 students to choose from; there really is something for everyone. The film allows students to find out more about the books before making the final decision on their top choice. The film and wide choice help to highlight different genres and authors that they may not have read before, whilst promoting reading for pleasure and a positive reading culture. It is really special to be able to gift the students their books before the Christmas break and to see how excited they all are to receive them and start reading them." Miss Robinson also included Year 7 students from The Wisbech Academy in this initiative, further enhancing the collaborative spirit within the trust.

The enthusiasm and excitement among students as they selected and received their books was heartwarming. Parents are encouraged to discuss the new books with their children and motivate them to read.

For those who found it challenging to pick just one favourite, all 16 Bookbuzz titles, along with any sequels and other works by the featured authors, will be available in the academy library in the new year.

This initiative underscores Thomas Clarkson Academy's commitment to nurturing a lifelong love of reading in its students and celebrates the collaborative efforts within the trust to enhance educational experiences.
