Sixth form students experience Cambridge University life
Last Friday, 13 Year 12 and 13 Sixth Form students had the unique opportunity to visit Trinity Hall College for a bespoke application workshop day. The event, curated and delivered by Trinity Hall, aimed to dispel myths and correct misinterpretations about what it means to be a Cambridge applicant and student.
During the workshop, our students engaged with first and third-year Cambridge students who shared their experiences, highlighting both the rewarding and challenging aspects of studying at Cambridge. They also recounted their personal journeys to becoming Cambridge students, providing valuable insights and inspiration. Notably, one of the third-year students was from the local town of Whittlesey and had a similar upbringing to many of our students, making their success story particularly relatable and inspiring.
The Year 13 students, who have already applied, were given a tour of a different part of the college. They received valuable insights into the interview and assessment process before rejoining the Year 12s to hear from the student ambassadors.
The group also had the privilege of hearing from three PhD students currently conducting research in diverse fields such as Chinese studies, Forensic Fire Science, and AI in the social space. These presentations offered a glimpse into the advanced academic work being undertaken at Cambridge.
The day concluded with a delightful lunch in the dining hall, where our students mingled with Cambridge students, further enriching their experience.
The trip proved to be an enlightening experience, equipping students with the knowledge and inspiration needed to pursue their academic goals. It also underscored the academy's commitment to supporting students in their journey towards higher education.
"The key takeaway from the trip was the realisation that there is no single 'Cambridge student' demographic. Regardless of their background, our students were encouraged to pursue their dreams and not be deterred by the notion of not 'being the right person.'" said Careers Advisor Mr. Hall.
