Enrichment

At Thomas Clarkson Academy we offer our Sixth Form students a wide range of different experiences so they can develop into confident young people and can manage the transition between sixth form life and early adulthood.

Throughout the year students will experience a range of resources and a variety of different sessions to build skills necessary to excel in the world of higher education and employment. All students will be provided with access to innovative IT platforms to ensure TCA students complete their sixth form studies with an all-round education as well as excellent academic qualifications.

We have regular guest speakers from a number of organisations and we have visitors attend TCA to deliver sessions on issues such as underage drinking and sexual health. As well as enrichment on site, students will visit exhibitions to enhance their understanding on topics such as young driver awareness and drug abuse.

With support from our CEIAG team (Careers, Education, Information, Advice and Guidance), students have the opportunity to visit a number of universities throughout their time in our Sixth Form, including Russell Group universities. Sixth Formers also have the chance to visit the UK's largest skills and careers show, The World Skills Show, which focuses on five areas: construction and logistics; engineering and technology; health and hospitality; digital and business; and creative and design.

In a normal year, trips would include:

  • UCAS Exhibition
  • Discover the NHS – ARU day
  • UEA – What does university have to offer
  • ARU – University visit & personal statement workshop
  • Trinity Hall College – For higher ability students
  • Norwich Castle – Crime & punishment experience
  • Apprenticeship Opportunities – Anglian Water & CapGemini Trip

Other workshops/experiences:

  • PGL Team building trip
  • Cultural city break
  • Oscar – Researching & preparing UCAS applications
  • Student Finance Talk (ARU)
  • Summer Program – Preparing for university/apprenticeship research
  • Enterprise activities
  • CV workshops
  • Year 12 work experience – two weeks

We also encourage students to apply to university summer schools.

Within school, there are also leadership opportunities. Our Sixth Formers run the Student Voice scheme, which allows students from all years groups to have their say on academy life.
