Children's Mental Health Week 2025: Empowering Young Minds

Children's Mental Health Week, an initiative launched by the children's mental health charity Place2Be, is set to take place from 3-9 February 2025. This annual event, now in its 11th year, aims to empower, equip, and give a voice to all children and young people across the UK.

This year's theme, "Know Yourself, Grow Yourself," encourages children, young people, and adults to embrace self-awareness and explore what it means to them. By fostering self-awareness, participants can develop resilience to better cope with life's challenges.

Mrs Davies, the school counsellor, will be hosting two Mental Health Drop-in Sessions for parents and carers. These sessions, scheduled for 9-10am on Monday, 3rd February and 2-3pm on Wednesday, 5th February, provide an opportunity for informal discussions over coffee. Miss Davies emphasises, "I am here to answer any questions or concerns parents and carers may have regarding mental health and wellbeing." There is no need to book, please arrive at main reception for your preferred drop-in session.

The academy library is also playing an important role in this year's event. Miss Robinson, the librarian, highlights the extensive collection of both fiction and non-fiction books available that focus on mental health and wellbeing. "Children's Mental Health Week is a great time to remind everyone of the range of books available from the academy library all year round," she says. The academy library's permanent 'Shelf Help' display features specially selected books to support understanding and managing health and wellbeing.

Families, parents, and carers are encouraged to participate in Children's Mental Health Week from the comfort of their homes, utilising the fun and engaging resources created by Place2Be experts. This week-long event is a valuable opportunity to promote mental health awareness and support the emotional growth of young minds.
