Box Clever's Modern Twist on a Classic Captivates Students
Box Clever's latest production has once again proven to be a resounding success, captivating Year 10 students with its innovative and interactive approach. The modern re-telling of the classic story kept students engaged from start to finish, blending key quotes from the original text with contemporary references that resonated with the young audience.
The performance cleverly replaced traditional elements with modern equivalents, such as substituting bakers with Burger King and transforming Bob Cratchit into Bobby, an immigrant woman striving to support her sickly son while fearing job loss. This fresh perspective brought the timeless themes of the story to life in a way that felt relevant and accessible.
Students were particularly enthusiastic about the dynamic aspects of the production, including the music, lighting, games, and jokes. The interactive nature of the play allowed them to actively participate, taking on roles and immersing themselves in the experience.
Ms. Buckland, the KS4 English Lead who organised the event, praised Box Clever for their ability to deliver high-energy, engaging theatre that remains true to the original text. "We love having Box Clever in for what is some of our students' first experience of live theatre. They always produce high-energy, relevant, and engaging theatre while still using original text and keeping a strong focus on the themes of the novella," she said.
Overall, the production was a hit, leaving a lasting impression on the students and reinforcing the enduring relevance of classic literature through a modern lens.
