Both Michael K and Naomi K represented our academy in the Junior Kangaroo which is a contest for invited students only, who achieved the required threshold in the Junior Maths Challenge held earlier in the year.

The two students regularly take part in a voluntary after-school maths club to help hone their skills.

“We are very proud of them and the fantastic enthusiasm they have shown for the subject,” said maths teacher and numeracy coordinator Mrs Stevenson.

The junior Kangaroo is an hour-long test involving 25 multiple choice challenges and entry is strictly invitation-based. Several thousand students take part across the country, and it’s only open to schools.

Participants are not expected to finish the entire paper, but the questions are arranged in order of difficulty, with the most tricky at the end.

“This paper is about solving interesting problems, not about lucky guessing,” says the advice from organiser the UK Maths Trust.
