Sprinting to a career in sport
One of our students is making his mark on the track and field events and holds several school records in sports as diverse as the long jump and 200m.
Kajus,14, is in Year 10 and a keen all-round sportsman who hopes for a future career in either rugby, football or athletics.
He currently holds the 100m record at 12.2, the 200m record at 25.37 and the long jump at 5.4m and has also represented the academy at meetings. Kajus also has the long jump record in years 8, 9 and 10, as well as the 200m record.
But it’s rugby that really holds his heart, and it is his favourite sport to watch. While winning races makes him happy, the rugby pitch is his chosen sport environment. He plays for both our school and Wisbech Rugby Club.
“I love to see the ball being moved up and down the pitch. I would like to have a career in either rugby or athletics,” says Kajus, who also trains as a boxer twice a week.
Sport is not something that his family is heavily involved in, but Kajus said his sister’s boyfriend Vakaris is an inspiration and supports all his sporting efforts while helping to get him involved in clubs, including rugby which he also played.
“It is wonderful to see students excelling in sport. We are already planning lots of exciting trips for students to experience the world of sport outside of our academy,” said second in PE Miss Anderson.
